Getting in the mood for Easter fun is easy if you live in the area. Check out the family-friendly events being held this weekend and next.
Heggie Field Easter Egg Hunt, 1 p.m. April 12 at Joliet Park District’s Heggie Field, Collins and Williams streets, Joliet. The field will be divided among four age groups: 4 years and younger, ages 5 to 7, ages 8 to 10 and ages 11 and 12. Free.
Nowell Park Easter Egg Hunt, 10 a.m. April 12 at Joliet Park District’s Nowell Park Baseball Field, 5 Mills Road (off Chicago Street). The field will be divided among four age groups: 4 years and younger, ages 5 to 7, ages 8 to 10 and ages 11 and 12. Free.
Breakfast with the Easter Bunny, 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. to noon April 12, Bird Haven Greenhouse, 225 N. Gougar Road. Cost is $12 (free for 2 year olds and younger). Wish Upon a Star Easter Parade, 2 p.m. April 13 in downtown Joliet. Parade steps off at Chicago and Jackson streets. Free.
Bunny Bash 2014, 5:30 p.m. April 12 at the Cantigny VFW Hall, 826 Horseshoe Drive. Attendees are invited to wear PJs to the fundraising event for Guardian Angel Home’s Foster Care Program. The $28 fee includes making a free Plushy Pal toy, decorating T-shirts and Easter baskets, visits with the Easter Bunny, a Rainbow Wish Star, pizza and drinks. (Pizza only is $8.) Meet the Easter Bunny, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday through April 19 at the Louis Joliet Mall, 3340 Mall Loop Drive (near U.S. 30 and Interstate 55). Free.
Easter Event at Bill Jacobs Auto, 5 to 8 p.m. April 11, 2001 W. Jefferson St. Event includes photos with the Easter Bunny, egg coloring and decorating, a coloring contest and candy. Free and open to the public.
Hugs for Hounds: 6th Annual Doggie Easter Egg Hunt, 11 a.m. April 19 at Hammel Woods Dog Park, Black Road east of Route 59, sponsored by the Forest Preserve District of Will County and Shorewood H.U.G.S. Hippity Hop Easter Egg Hunt, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 19 at the Timbers of Shorewood Retirement Community, 1100 N. River Road. Event includes indoor and outdoor egg hunts for toddlers to 12 years olds, petting zoo, photos with the Easter Bunny, caricature and portrait artists, face painting, bead poodles, games, prizes, hot chocolate, cookies, magician, juggler, clown and Those Funny Little People. Will County Chapter of Child Evangelism Fellowship Easter Egg Extravaganza, 10 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. April 19 at 305 Channahon St. Event includes egg hunt, prizes, candy, jelly bean count contest, refreshments, Bible lesson, children’s music, storytelling. Open to the public and free.

Flashlight Egg Hunt, 8 p.m. April 11 at Plainfield Park District’s Van Horn Woods on Lily Cache Road, east of Caton Farm Road. First hunt for 7 to 9 year olds starts at 8 p.m., followed by hunt for 10 to 12 year olds at 8:30 p.m. Eggs contain candy and prizes. Cost is $5 for residents, $7.50 for nonresidents. Egg Hunt and Meet the Easter Bunny, 10 a.m. April 12 at Plainfield Park District’s Clow Stephens Park on Lily Cache Road, east of U.S. 30. Egg hunt will start at 10 a.m. for 1 to 3 year olds, 10:15 a.m. for 4 and 5 year olds, and 10:30 a.m. for 6 and 7 year olds. Spring Pictures and Pony Rides, April 13 at Plainfield Park District’s Normantown Equestrian Center, 12151 S. Normantown Road. Easter egg hunts will be held for children waiting for 10-minute rides on festively dressed ponies. A safety helmet will be provided. Plainfield Community Easter Egg Hunt at 9:30 a.m. April 12 at Lincoln Elementary School, 14740 Meadow Lane, sponsored by Community Christian Church in Plainfield. Event includes face painting for kids and hot coffee for adults.
Community Easter Egg Hunt, 11 a.m. April 19 at 241 Canterbury Lane, sponsored by DuPage Township. Groups will be divided by age from pre-kindergarten through middle-school age. Candy and prizes will be given away.
Easter Bunny photos and activities, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 12 and 13 and April 19 20, 6 to 8 p.m. April 14 to 17 and 2 to 7 p.m. April 18 at Bass Pro Shops, 709 N. Janes Ave. Free photos with the Easter Bunny daily. Egg hunts will be held at 2 p.m. April 12 and 13 and April 19 and 20 for ages 2 to 10. Children can color plaster eggs from 1 to 4 p.m. April 12 and 13 and can create a bunny frame or scratch art bunny craft from 4 to 7 p.m. April 18 and from 1 to 4 p.m. April 19 and 20. Free.

Bunny Brunch, 8:30 to 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 12 at Lockport Township Park District’s Prairie Bluff Public Golf Course Banquet Room. Event includes a breakfast brunch, Easter egg hunt and the Easter Bunny arriving on a fire truck. Cost is $9 for residents ages 2 to 11 and $12 for those 12 or older ($3 more for nonresidents).
