Will County Sheriff's Office detectives believe that several people exchanged gunfire, resulting in two victims sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.

Two men were shot Sunday night in a gunfight that occurred at a Joliet Township home, according to the Will County Sheriff's Office.

The incident occurred at about 10:45 p.m. at a house in the 800 block of Eunice Avenue.

Initially, police were told there was just one shooter who came from the rear of the house, fired shots and fled, sheriff's office spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said. But based on evidence at the scene, detectives "now believe that more than one gun had been fired and that several people were involved in exchanging gunfire," she said.

Both victims are in their 30s and were transported to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox. One was shot in the abdomen, upper leg and ankle and the other ws shot several times in the thighs, Hoffmeyer said. The injuries are not considered life-threatening, she said.

The case remains under investigation, Hoffmeyer said.
