The Citizens Utility Board (CUB) will analyze utility bills at a free clinic Dec. 11 to help Joliet-area residents save potentially hundreds of dollars a year.

The program will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Joliet Public Library, 150 N. Ottawa St.

Consumers should bring their gas, electric and phone bills for a free, one-on-one consultation with a CUB expert, who will search for ways to lower their utility costs. Registration is required; call the library at 815-740-2660.

CUB will give consumers information on:

  • How to spot unnecessary charges on natural gas, electric and phone bills.
  • Energy efficiency programs and rebates that can help people cut their utility bills.
  • Utility rates, and making the right choices in the electric and gas markets.
  • CUB services, including its toll-free Consumer Hotline, 1-800-669-5556.
  • CUB Energy Saver, www.CUBEnergySaver.com, a free online tool that recommends actions consumers can take to cut their electric bills by potentially hundreds of dollars a year. The service tracks real savings and rewards participants with shopping and restaurant gift cards for reducing electricity usage.

Attendees should bring their utility bills so a CUB expert can analyze them.

CUB is Illinois’ leading nonprofit utility watchdog. Created by the Illinois Legislature, CUB opened its doors in 1984 to represent the interests of residential and small-business utility customers. Since then, it has saved consumers more than $20 billion by helping to block rate hikes and secure refunds.
