Following a successful first year, Firehouse Subs has again teamed up with the Joliet Slammers to raise money for local first responders.
Representatives from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation presented a check last week for just over $55,000 to help two Chicagoland fire districts with the purchase of updated equipment.
The check was presented before the Slammer’s game against the Windy City ThunderBolts during “First Responder Night.”
As part of the partnership, 50 percent of tickets sold online using promo code “firehouse” will benefit the Foundation (jolietslammers.com). Fans can also support the initiative by participating in the silent auction available at Firehouse Subs locations in Joliet, Orland Park, Wheaton and Bradley, or during live jersey auctions at each home game.
The donations will benefit the Orland Fire Protection District which will purchase new portable radios and University Park Fire Department which is using its funds to purchase a new cardiac monitor defibrillator.
Since its inception in 2005, the non-profit organization has granted more than $28 million to hometown heroes in 46 states including more than $793,000 in Illinois.
