Earlier this fall, the 9U (ages 5-9) competed at Darling Diva, for their showcase debut and performed well! The 13U cheerleaders (ages 10-13) also performed at the Illinois Regional; competing against nationally ranked teams. While the Cheer program continues to grow, the objective remains in-tact, said Frank Bermudez, President, Joliet Ravens Youth Football and Cheer organization. “We are looking forward to another great year--developing our cheerleaders into outstanding student athletes.”
This year, the organization also recognized 57 athletic achievers. The students maintaining a 3.0 or above GPA were honored at our annual banquet. “We are so proud of these students for their achievements and we are looking forward to growing this sector of the program,” said Bermudez. They also had one student recognized for the state achievement of being in the 98th percentile.
The younger guys at the 6U and 8U levels had a phenomenal season! Developing these young athletes to promote and inspire good sportsmanship, physical fitness, teamwork, respect for others, fellowship, and fair play, to stimulate the youth's interest in sports; while providing the fundamentals of football is the organizations main objective for the young athletes. “We strive to provide the best opportunities to our young athletes.”
The 9U and 10U Teams earned the title as Illinois State Champions. The 11U Football team joined 9U and 10U in traveling to the United Youth Football League National Championship Tournament in Tampa, Florida, for a full week of competition in their respective levels. The 11U team finished strong after a successful regular season (8-1) lead by Head Coach Jesse Palomar; bringing home a nationally ranked team, yet again! Coach Jesse Palomar has delivered a nationally ranked team every year for the past 5 years. After an undefeated regular season, the 9U team also finished as National Qualifiers while in Tampa. These young athletes have evolved and worked together to secure the victory under the leadership of Head Coach Mike Lynch.
They have conquered the division for 3 consecutive years. The 10U team brought home a National Championship Title for the 10-year-old weighted division, with a final win over the Brooklyn NY Saints. During the National tournament the 10U only gave up 1 touchdown (6 points). During the 10U undefeated season and completing a total of 18 regular season games, the team didn’t give up any points. They were led by Head Coach Jovan Green; the team is eager to get back on the field next season. “Our 12/13 year old team also brought home several titles this season. Competing at the JV level in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Tournament held in Canton, Ohio; the Ravens clenched the Regional Title. On Friday, their first network debut, (aired on CBS Sports) the JV Joliet Ravens secured another victory: National Champions! Head Coach Neil Williams (supported by Coach Damion McIntosh) fought their way to the Nationals by defeating teams from Maryland, New Jersey and New York.
“A lot of planning, fundraising, personal commitment and sacrifice goes in to making
the program successful. Our parents are truly the heart of our organization, ensuring athletes have this amazing opportunity. Our Coaches and volunteers are to be commended for their selfless investment into our young people. These showcase tournaments give our athletes a platform & experience to compete on a level preparing them for high school, college, and beyond. We are pleased to know many of our former players have been successful building on the foundation of football fundamentals instilled by the Joliet Ravens Organization. We have no doubt that these National Tournaments serve the same and greater for our current athletes. We are excited to bring home these honors to the city of Joliet.”
