Wine of the Week: A Goldmine of Planet Bordeaux wines arrive

Bordeaux, France, the world capitol of fine wine, is one of the most

progressive regions in the world in terms of its commitment to creating

sustainable wines. As of last year, fully 60% of its vineyards are under

sustainable viticulture with the objective of achieving 100%. Bordeaux's

2020 Climate Plan targets reducing greenhouse gas emissions, CO2 emissions

and fossil fuel and water consumption, while increasing the use of

renewable energies as its expressed goals. With that in mind, wine

producers under the banner Planet Bordeaux launched their marketing program

for 2018 in Chicago with the presentation of A Goldmine of Planet Bordeaux


The wines presented are all certified organic and biodynamic as well as

certified as agriculturally sustainable. Many of the estates practice

integrated viticulture where minimal treatments are given on a as needed

basis. For the ecologically conscious, Planet Bordeaux wines are the way to


Sofitel Hotel Chicago Magnificent Mile was the setting for the seminar,

tasting and dinner pairing Planet Bordeaux wines with Sofitel Chicago's

excellent French-inspired modern cuisine. Among the wines presented was

Chateau Lisennes Crement du Bordeaux sparkling wine, a blend of Semillon,

Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle with a variety of French Charcuterie, jams,

mustard and pickles. An Appetizer of Foie Gras au Torchon featured Chateau

Lamothe 2016 , a white wine blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillion and

Muscadelle along with Coeval Quaancard Reserve 2014, AOC Bordeaux Blance,

with a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillion. The Main Course of Slagel

Farms New York Strip Steak with Root vegetables and roasted garlic jus

featured Chateau Nicot 2015, a, AOC Bordeaux Rouge consisting of Cabernet

Sauvignon and Merlot and Chateau de Camarsac 2012, aOC Bordeaux Rouge, a

blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The Cheese Course

featured Chateau Argadens 2012, AOC Bordeaux Superieur Rouge with Cabernet

Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc and Chateau Laronde Desormes 2010, AOC

Bordeaux Rouge with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot.
