Substance abuse workshop

The Will County Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition will be joining with Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church to host a substance abuse workshop from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8 at the church, located at 1710 Carey Street in Joliet.

The workshop, entitled “From Darkness to Light” will feature speakers from Chestnut Health Systems and include naloxone training. The “Hidden in Plain Sight” trailer from the Will County Sheriff’s Office will also be part of the event.

With the rising number of opiate overdose, the coalition has been working to educate the community about the dangers of opiate use and expand naloxone training across the county.

“Last year, Will County experienced 85 opiate overdose deaths,” said Sheriff Mike Kelley. “It is important that we educate as many people as possible about the dangers of opiate use and teach people how to administer naloxone, a lifesaving drug that reverse the effects of an overdose. We are proud to partner with Mt. Olive church to offer this information to our residents in this area.”

Admission to the event is free but pre-registration is required. For more information and to register for the event, please visit the website: by September 5.
