Troy Library to offer library Card to students in Joliet School Districts

Shorewood-Troy Public Library has announced intergovernmental agreements have been signed with the following local school districts: District 86 and Joliet 204, in conjunction with the Joliet Public Library. These agreements will allow for all students who are Shorewood-Troy Public Library District residents to easily obtain a library card, which offers 24-7 digital access to the library's online collections, in addition to traditional print and/or physical resources.

New vote by mail technology for vision-impaired voters

Will County Clerk Lauren Staley Ferry is offering visually impaired voters in Will County an option to vote by mail without assistance in the 2020 election thanks to a system that allows them to use audio instructions to navigate and mark their ballots. The system, known as Accessible Vote By Mail (AVBM), is similar to the Illinois State Board of Elections’ MOVE (Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment) process that allows overseas military personnel to receive a ballot electronically then return a marked hard copy to an election authority for voting.

Hunters can now go directly to trailhead parking areas and sign in

Wilmington IL - The USDA Forest Service’s Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie announces updates and safety reminders for the 2020-2021 hunting seasons. There are separate times identified based on the type of hunt. 2020-2021 dates for hunting at Midewin NTP are as follows: 2020-2021 Hunting Season Dates Deer Archery Oct. 1, 2020 through Jan. 17, 2021 Shotgun/Muzzleloader Nov. 20-22, 2020 Shotgun/Muzzleloader Dec. 3-6, 2020 Muzzleloader only Dec. 11-13, 2020 Licenses for shotgun and muzzleloader hunting are awarded through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (I-DNR) lottery system. The I-DNR lottery is already complete for the 2020-2021 hunting seasons. Hunting at Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie is available on all lands open to the public with some exceptions.

Residential Senior Snow removal program returns for 2020-21

The City of Joliet is once again offering snow removal assistance for the 2020-21 season for residents 65 years or older or a person with a doctor verified disability. The program is designed to make it easier for seniors and persons with disabilities to leave their homes for necessities and getting to medical appointments by providing snow removal from paved driveways and service sidewalks at their homes. Funding for this program is available through the use of Community Development Block Grants.
